We didn’t grow up dairy farmers. In 2013, we moved to Missouri, bought a little patch of land, and said, “Let’s try this farm life.” We brought home one cow — yes, just one — along with a few chickens, sheep, goats… you name it. We were figuring it out as we went.
That first cow was Buttercup. She was an Ayrshire, sweet as she could be, and full of personality. Teaching her to come into the barn for milking was more trial than triumph at first. We leaned heavily on advice from retired neighbors, a few old farm books, and plenty of stubbornness.
Pretty soon, Buttercup had a calf. We decided to buy another cow, sold off the goats (they were experts at escaping), and started dreaming a little bigger. We wanted something that would work with the land — not against it. We wanted cows that could graze freely, live on open pastures, and still produce rich, cream-topped milk. Jerseys fit that bill better than anything we tried.
Over time, we bought a retiring dairy’s herd and a hundred acres. Suddenly, we went from a few cows to around fifty. We didn’t want to be a big industrial dairy — we wanted to raise healthy cows, improve our pastures, and focus on quality over quantity. So we began rotational grazing, moving our cows to fresh grass daily. The results were incredible: healthier cows, vibrant pastures, and milk that consistently tested off the charts in butterfat and protein — all naturally A2/A2.
The quality of that milk spoke for itself. It exceeded commercial dairy standards, and before long, word spread. Families started driving out to the farm just to buy milk straight from us. It honestly overwhelmed us — in the best way. That’s when Dairy to Your Door was born: a way to take our farm-fresh, high-butterfat, A2/A2 milk directly to homes across the Ozarks, so more families could experience what real milk is supposed to taste like.
Today, our cows still graze on clean Missouri pastures, our kids still help with chores, and our faith still guides everything we do. Every jug of milk we deliver carries the same heart that started it all — simple, honest, and full of the goodness that comes from doing things the right way.
We’ve learned that real farming means working with the land, not against it. Our cows are rotationally grazed on open pastures, giving the ground time to rest and rebuild. The result is living soil — full of earthworms, healthy bacteria, and natural fertility that keeps our grass thriving year after year. We plant crops like rye and sorghum-sudangrass to add organic matter, improve soil structure, and hold moisture through the hot Missouri summers. These deep-rooted plants pull up minerals that end up right where they belong — in the milk. We don’t use chemicals, period. Modern dairies often depend on fertilizers, sprays, and high-input feeds to push out more milk faster. That kind of farming wears down the land and produces milk that’s cheap, thin, and lacking in nutrition. We’ve chosen a different way — slower, simpler, and better. Our goal is to care for the land God gave us, raise cows that improve it, and deliver milk that reflects that goodness — real, rich, and full of life.
